The Earlier You Know, The More You Can Do: A Dementia Diagnosis Matters.

Campaign Representation

Officially represented by the Purple Ribbon.

Campaign Description

Promotes early detection of cognitive decline and works toward creating dementia-friendly communities and robust support systems for patients and caregivers.

Theme Focus

The 2026 focuses on raising awareness of the value of timely dementia diagnosis, helping people recognize possible signs earlier, reducing stigma, and connecting people living with dementia and their families to appropriate information, care and support.

Key Priorities

  • Recognize possible signs early: changes in memory, thinking, behaviour or daily functioning deserve appropriate attention rather than being automatically dismissed as normal ageing.
  • Understand the value of diagnosis: a diagnosis can help people and families understand what is happening and explore available care, treatment and support options.
  • Reduce stigma: dementia should be discussed as a health condition rather than something that should be hidden or treated with shame.
  • Support people after diagnosis: connect individuals and families with appropriate health, social and community support.
  • Promote informed decision-making: knowing what is happening earlier can provide more opportunity to plan for care and future needs.
  • Support research and emerging approaches: ADI's 2026 World Alzheimer Report also highlighted the growing importance of dementia clinical trials and the participation of people in earlier stages of dementia.

Key Concepts

  • Neurodegenerative disease.
  • Cognitive impairment.
