Campaign Description

Launched in 2007 by a coalition of NGOs and supported by UNFPA, this day promotes awareness of contraceptive options to support informed reproductive choices.

Theme Focus

The 2026 theme: “No Barriers, Just Choices: Contraceptive Access Now”, focuses on improving access to accurate information, contraceptive choices, and supportive reproductive-health services so people can make informed decisions about whether and when to have children.

Key Priorities

  • Know your options: understand the range of available contraceptive methods and how they differ.
  • Challenge misinformation: distinguish evidence-based information from common myths about contraception.
  • Improve access: recognise barriers such as cost, availability, stigma, lack of information, and limited services.
  • Support informed choice: contraceptive decisions should be based on accurate information and individual circumstances.
  • Include STI prevention: condoms have an important role because they can help prevent pregnancy while also reducing the risk of sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.
  • Promote respectful healthcare: people should be able to discuss contraception with appropriately trained healthcare professionals without unnecessary stigma.

Key Concepts

  • Family planning.
  • Contraceptive methods.
  • Reproductive autonomy.
  • Youth-friendly services.
