Campaign Description

Observed annually on 20 June since 2001, World Refugee Day honors the courage and resilience of refugees while mobilizing political will and resources so they can not only survive but thrive. Refugee Week (15–21 June) runs alongside it with the complementary theme "Courage."

Theme Focus

Marking the 75th anniversary of the 1951 Refugee Convention, UNHCR's 2026 theme stresses that safety is not divisible — no community is truly secure while people forced to flee are denied protection. It calls for renewed commitment to non-refoulement (never returning refugees to danger) and dignified, rights-based treatment amid over 117 million forcibly displaced people worldwide.
