Campaign Description

Cancer Survivors Day, observed annually on the first Sunday in June, is a global Celebration of Life that honors everyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis onward. The day celebrates the resilience of cancer survivors, raises awareness of the ongoing physical, emotional, financial, and social challenges of survivorship, and advocates for greater support, research, and resources to improve quality of life.

Theme Focus

“A Celebration of Life” celebrates the fact that life can continue after a cancer diagnosis while recognizing that survivorship can bring its own physical, emotional, social and financial challenges.

The 2026 observance therefore has a dual purpose: celebrate survivors and improve survivorship. The campaign highlights the need for greater awareness, research, resources and practical support so that people affected by cancer can move beyond simply surviving toward a fulfilling quality of life.

Key Priorities

  • Celebrate cancer survivors at every stage of their journey.
  • Recognize the continuing effects of cancer and its treatment.
  • Improve survivors' quality of life, not merely survival.
  • Address long-term physical effects and treatment-related complications.
  • Support emotional and psychological well-being.
  • Address financial toxicity and healthcare costs.
  • Support employment, education and return to everyday activities.
  • Strengthen survivorship care and follow-up.
  • Provide reliable information and practical resources.
  • Support caregivers, families and social networks.
  • Encourage survivors to share their experiences and connect with others.
  • Increase research into long-term survivorship needs.
  • Reduce stigma and misconceptions surrounding life after cancer.
  • Help survivors thrive, rather than defining survivorship solely by the absence of disease.
