Campaign Representation

Campaign Description

Hypertension Awareness Month is observed throughout May to raise awareness of high blood pressure (hypertension), often called the "silent killer" because it frequently develops without noticeable symptoms while increasing the risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and premature death. The month-long campaign encourages individuals to know their blood pressure numbers, adopt heart-healthy lifestyles, seek early diagnosis, and adhere to treatment when needed. It also supports healthcare systems and communities in improving hypertension screening, prevention, treatment, and long-term control through education, outreach, and policy initiatives.

Theme Focus

The 2026 theme emphasizes that controlling hypertension is a shared responsibility involving individuals, families, communities, healthcare professionals, and policymakers. It encourages everyone to check their blood pressure regularly, since early detection is the first step toward prevention and effective management. The campaign also highlights the importance of healthy lifestyles, accurate blood pressure measurement, medication adherence, equitable access to quality healthcare, and sustained primary care services to reduce the global burden of cardiovascular disease. By promoting collective action, the campaign aims to prevent avoidable complications such as heart attacks, strokes, kidney disease, and premature death.
