Campaign Description

Led by UNEP and held annually on 5 June since 1973, World Environment Day is the largest global platform for environmental public outreach, engaging tens of millions of people through events, campaigns, and community action worldwide.

Theme Focus

Hosted by Azerbaijan in Baku, the 2026 observance centers on climate change — the urgent signals the Earth is sending and how humanity chooses to respond. UNEP's campaign calls on governments, cities, businesses, and individuals to rethink the systems driving the climate and ecosystem crisis, not just carbon emissions, and to act with urgency using the hashtag #NowForClimate.
