Observed every July, Sarcoma Awareness Month highlights sarcoma — often called the "forgotten cancer" — a group of over 100 rare cancer subtypes that begin in bones and soft tissue. It accounts for roughly 1% of adult cancers but 15–20% of pediatric cancers, making awareness, early detection, and research funding especially critical.
Theme Focus
Sarcoma UK's 2026 campaign shares real stories from people affected by sarcoma to build understanding of what life looks like during and after treatment for this rare cancer. There isn't one single unified global theme (each national organization runs its own campaign — the US-based Sarcoma Foundation of America centers its month around Wear Yellow Wednesday, Light Up for Sarcoma, and its Advocacy Weekend), but all campaigns share the same core goals: improving early diagnosis, expanding research funding, and supporting patients and families.
Key Priorities
Educating primary care providers on recognizing suspicious growing lumps.
Improving timely referral to specialist sarcoma centers.
Advocating for increased research funding.
Providing psychosocial support to patients and families.
Key Concepts
Soft tissue sarcoma.
Osteosarcoma, biopsy and pathology.
Limb-sparing surgery.
Targeted therapies.
