Sweat

A watery fluid produced primarily by sweat glands and released onto the skin, where it contributes to cooling and other functions.

Sweat contains water, electrolytes, and other dissolved substances. Evaporation of sweat from the skin surface helps regulate body temperature.

Sweat itself does not cause acne, although heat, moisture, occlusion, and friction associated with sweating can contribute to skin irritation or aggravate some acne and acne-like eruptions.

QUICK FACT

Sweat is not the same as sebum. Sweat is produced by sweat glands, while sebum is produced by sebaceous glands.

COMMONLY CONFUSED WITH
