A cyst is a closed sac beneath or within the skin that contains fluid, semi-solid material, or other substances.
Many different types of cysts exist throughout the body. In acne, severe inflammation may produce deep, painful lesions commonly referred to as acne cysts, although not every lesion called “cystic acne” is a true pathological cyst.
