Fibrous Tissue

Fibrous tissue is connective tissue that contains large amounts of collagen fibres and provides strength and structural support to the body.

Fibrous tissue is found throughout the body, including in tendons, ligaments, the deeper layers of the skin, and scar tissue. During healing, the body often produces fibrous tissue to repair damaged areas when normal tissue cannot be fully restored.

Commonly Confused With

Scar

Although scar tissue is made largely of fibrous tissue, not all fibrous tissue is scar tissue. Healthy tendons and ligaments are also examples of fibrous tissue.
