Intestine

The portion of the digestive tract extending from the stomach to the anus, consisting primarily of the small intestine and large intestine.

The small intestine is the main site of digestion and nutrient absorption. The large intestine absorbs water and electrolytes, houses a large microbial community, and helps form and store feces.

Together, the intestines play major roles in digestion, absorption, fluid balance, and elimination of waste.
