A sudden or serious medical situation requiring prompt assessment or treatment because delay could result in significant harm.
A medical emergency can involve an immediate threat to life, organ function, or long-term health. Examples include severe breathing difficulty, major bleeding, stroke, heart attack, severe allergic reaction, and sepsis.
Not every emergency is immediately obvious. Some serious conditions can initially produce subtle symptoms, which is why sudden or rapidly worsening symptoms may require urgent medical evaluation.
