Melanin

Melanin is the natural pigment that gives colour to the skin, hair, and eyes.

Melanin is produced by specialised cells called melanocytes. In addition to determining skin colour, melanin helps protect skin cells by absorbing and dispersing ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight.
