A pustule is a small, raised skin lesion containing visible purulent material.
In acne, pustules develop when inflammation within or around a follicle leads to accumulation of neutrophils, cellular debris, and fluid, producing the characteristic white or yellow center.
Pustules can occur in many skin conditions and are not specific to acne.
